As shocking as it may sound, Darren Waller could be on the move very soon. It really did come out of nowhere, but Waller made headlines once it was announced that the Green Bay Packers were in talks with the Las Vegas Raiders for his services. The report had made it sound like the Raiders would be returning the favor after receiving Davante Adams from them earlier in the offseason. It also mentioned that the Packers wanted Waller in the Adams deal. However, don’t place your bets on it happening.
The Raiders star quarterback Derek Carr immediately took to social media to debunk these rumors. He said there was no chance that Waller would get moved anytime soon. Waller has backed that claim up. Well, at least from what he’s been told. He said, “Yeah, I’ve had talks with the team. They said that’s not a thing that’s happening and there’s no trade that’s going to happen. Like I said, we’re just focusing on football.”
Reporters continued to press him over his reaction to hearing the news. To which he responded with, “I didn’t really have much of a reaction and I’m focused on learning the offensive system here in Vegas. It’s a business, whatever happens happens. I’m enjoying my time here in Vegas. I’m loving the new staff and the new challenges that are in place.”
Darren Waller Coming Off of a Down year
Waller has two years left on his current contract. He is set to receive roughly $6.25 million in both of those years. Although, he is coming off of a bad season. Coming off of back-to-back 1,000-yard years, Waller posted just 55 catches for 665 yards and two touchdowns in 2021.
It would certainly be interesting Waller catch passes from Aaron Rodgers, but it doesn’t look like that’s happening for now. We are just going to have to wait and see how the NFL Draft plays out first. For now, remember this rumor in case something big takes place. After all, Waller did say that the NFL is a business.
What do you think? Will Waller get moved to the Packers soon? Or better yet, should Waller get moved?
